Bio
David is an active composer and sound designer, working with Film, Contemporary Dance, Circus, Theatre, and Radio.
Specialisms are centered around composition, computer-based music production, sound design, studio-based recording techniques and technologies, location recording, multi-channel diffusion and spatialisation techniques, sound engineering, voice over recording, object orientated programming, digital signal processing, designing expressive musical controllers, and performance practice.
Recent work has been shown at the Short Films Corner of Festival De Cannes, Henley Film Festival, Portsmouth International Film Festival, Massachusetts Independent Film Festival, Guam International Film Festival, Bounce Disability Arts Festival, the International Samuel Beckett Festival and the Lughnasa International Friel Festival.
David's interest in music was developed through studying Creative Music Technology on the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In 2014, David completed a Ph.D. candidacy at the Sonic Arts Research Centre, and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Queen's University, Belfast.
Education
PhD in Sonic Art, An Original Portfolio of Compositions:
The portfolio and thesis explores experimental compositional practices through nine original works. The research uncovered new methods which are considered as the original contribution to knowledge; this involves a sequential spatialisation technique for diffusing stereo sources octophoniclly and a multi-device recording methodology for field recording with individual recording devices at variable distances.
